Note:   James E. Stensland, age 64, died on Friday, July 11, 2003 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Jim was born to Elmer and Agnes (Kormendy) Stensland on September 13, 1938 in Sioux Falls. He graduated from Hawthorne and Washington High School in 1956. He served in the US Navy, 3 years aboard the USS Lexington, CVA-16. On September, 2, 1963, Jim married Rose Ann Gessner at Salem, SD. He retired from the US Postal Service after 31 years of government service. Jim enjoyed woodworking and built sanctuary furniture for churches in Woonsocket, Salem and Sioux Falls, SD. Among other hobbies, Jim belonged to the Professional Gun-Dog Trainers Assoc., Habitat for Humanity, APWU Postal Workers Union, and was a model train enthusiast. Jim was a member of St. Lamberts Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann; sons, Daniel and Paul (Lisa); daughters, Shelly (Todd) Gibson, and Kim (Jason) Gibson; seven grandchildren; and his mother, Agnes Stensland, all of Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Sunday, July 13. There will be a Scripture Vigil at 7:00 PM Sunday evening. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM Monday at St. Joseph's Cathedral. Burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery with full Military Rites by the American Legion Post 15.
