William Discher was born January 20, 1880 and married Theresa Schmidt, June 22, 1915. They had six children: Cecilia, Louis, Lawrence who died at one month and was Louis' twin, Regina, Eugene, and Genevieve. William died in 1942 and theresa died in 1976. Theresa was born in 1887. William Discher passed away at his home northeast of Salem, SD on November 12, 1942 after an illness lasting about a week. The Requiem High Mass was sung by Rt. Rev. B. Weber at St. Mary's church Saturday morning. Interment was made in St. Mary's cemetery. Pallbearers were George Scheier, Henry Heumiller, Leonard J. Heumiller, Henry Feterl, Ralph Hetland and Charles Kipp. William Discher was born on January 20, 1880 in Helmern Paterborn, Germany, and the following year he came to the United States with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Discher. For a short time the family lived in Iowa and then they moved to South Dakota and homesteaded on a farm northeast of Salem, SD. Later Mr. Discher made his home on another farm where he lived continuously until his death which occurred at the age of 61 years, 9 months, and 22 days. On June 22, 1915 he married Teresa Schmidt, Rev. Benedict J. Birkle performing the ceremony at St. Michael�s Pro-Cathedral church in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union, six children were born. One son, Lawrence, died in infancy. The deceased leaves to mourn his death, his wife, two sons; Louis and Eugene at home; three daughters; Mrs. Achille Van Den Hemel of Madison, SD; Regina and Genevieve who are at home; one grandchild and four sisters; Mrs. Anna Heumiller, Gertrude, Mary and Elizabeth of Salem, SD. Mr. Discher was a pioneer of this community, having lived here practically all of his lifetime. He was a god Christian man and had a great many friends who will feel his absence keenly. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Achille Van Den Hemel and son, Mrs. Henry Van Den Hemel of Madison, SD; Mr. and Mrs. William B. Schmidt and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Schmidt and Ralph of Sioux Falls, SD; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Keltter of Worthington, Minnesota; and John E. Elbers of Ilills, Minnesota.
