a. Note:   Salem Special, Salem, SD July 24, 1997 Clement W. Heumiller, 77, Emery, SD, died Friday, July 18, 1997 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Salem, SD. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, July 21, 1997 at St. Martin Catholic Church, Emery, SD, Fr. Ladislaus Dudek celebrant. Pallbearers were Steve Heumiller, Jr. Dan Lehmann, Matthew Lehmann, Bill McCormick, Phillip McCormick, Milton Peterson. Mass servers were Lee Dockendorf, Lance Catron and Royce Haeder. Bob McCormick was lector. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Heumiller was born October 20, 1919 in rural Montrose, SD to Joseph and Anna (Discher) Heumiller. He attended Catholic school in Salem, SD. He served in the Army during World War II. On October 15, 1946 he married Elaine Sandstrom. They farmed in the Montrose area for 36 years, then retired to Salem for five years. He lived in Emery the past 10 years. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, the American Legion and was county commander, the Catholic Foresters and the 4-H. He is survived by five sons: Terry Heumiller, Humbird, Wisconsin; Steve and wife Rhonda Heumiller, Timothy and wife Kathy Heumiller, Scott and wife Michelle Heumiller, and Larry Heumiller, all of Beloit, Wisconsin; three daughters: Cheri and husband Fred Lehmann, Sioux Falls, SD; Lori and husband Allen Hocking, Beloit, Wisconsin; and Michele and husband Mark Schulte, Emery, SD; one sister, Leona McCormick, Salem, SD; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on September 5, 1993; one son, Daniel; a brother, Charles; and two sisters, Catherine Heumiller and Madeline Kerkhoff. Larry Heumiller married Barbara and have two children. Terry Heumiller is not married. Cheryl Heumiller married Fred Lehmann and have three children. Steve Heumiller married Rhonda Hollis and had two children. Lori, Tim, and Scott are not married. Michele married Mark Schulte and have one child. Danile died at age of two as a drowning victim in 1964. Salem Special, May 11, 1995 (remembering W.W.II) (May 17, 1945 reprint of Salem Special) Corporal Clement Heumiller, a veteran of 24 months' overseas service in Africa and Europe, arrived home last Thursday to spend a furlough with his mother, Mrs. Anna Heumiller, and family. He was inducted into the Army in February 1942. In April 1943 he was sent overseas to North Africa and saw action in the campaigns there, in Italy and France. Injured in a truck accident last February in France, he was hospitalized in England. Corporal Heumiller is in a tank destroyer battalion. He wears the ETO Ribbon with the Silver Star for five major battles, the good conduct medal and the B-Range Star Ribbon. After his stay at home he is to report to Spokane, Washington, for further treatment.
