Note:   Salem Special, Salem, SD Oct 16, 1997 Funeral mass for Edmund H. Scheier will be held Oct 14, 1997 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Salem, SD. Fr. Joseph Ripp and Fr. Mike Kelly will concelebrate the mass. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Andrew Scheier, Jesse Schmidt, Scott Schmidt, Dean Schmidt, Craig Nelson, AMN, Casey Nelson, Scott Peterson, and Erech Button. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Luehn, Charles Judstra, Ray Kolbeck, Cy Heiberger, Bud Gottlob, and Clete Heumiller. Lectors will be Steven and Patti Rokusek. Edmund H. Scheier, son of George and Margaret (Wethor) Scheier was born April 30, 1925 near Salem, SD. He grew up in the Salem area and on October 25, 1949 he married Eileen Garry at St. Christina's Catholic Church in Parker, SD. He lived his entire life in the Salem area where he farmed. He and his wife moved into Salem in 1990. Ed enjoyed working on farm machinery and playing cards. He died October 13, 1997 in Salem having reached the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 13 days. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Salem. Survivors include; his wife of Salem, SD; four daughters, Mrs. Larry (Patricia) Sandner of Charles City, Iowa; Peg Schmidt of Huron, SD; Mrs. Bill (Bonny) Nelson and Mrs. Norman (Mary Rae) Peterson both of Salem, SD; one son Martin of Bountiful, Utah; 18 grandchildren; and one brother, Ben of Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Beverly McCormick, one brother, Joe, and four sisters, Florence Krantz, Georgiana Lunders, Sr. Marcine, and infant sister, Marcine.
