Note:   Tom Steineke, 84, Sioux Falls, SD, died July 27, 2003, in Sioux Falls, SD. Tom Richard Steineke was born June 8, 1919, to Will and Mae (Wintersteen) Steineke, at Hartford, SD. He was raised in the area, and attended country schools. Tom was united in marriage to Dorothy Archer on April 13, 1943. He was active in the US military at Okinawa, Japan during World War II, and after his discharge from service, continued farming in the Hartford area. Even after his retirement, he assisted his son, Bill, with his farming operation. Tom had farmed for over 54 years. Tom had truly loved farming and beings outdoors. He cherished his children and generations of grandchildren, and in his free-time enjoyed playing cards with them and spending time with them. The strong and loving relationship shared between Tom and Dorothy deeply bonded the family and all of their many friends. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hartford, SD, board member of the Hartford Cemetery, and officer of the Crooks elevator. In later years, Tom and Dorothy enjoyed attending Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared his life are his, wife, Dorothy Steineke, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Bill Steineke and his wife, Kathy, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Pat Nytroe and her friend, Bernie Opland, Dell Rapids, SD; grandchildren, Tammy Ketcham, Tom, Todd and Jeff Nytroe, Cindy Hanisch, Ben, Nate and Joseph Steineke; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Howard Steineke and his wife, Dorothy, Canton, SD, and Charles Steineke and his wife, Eleanor, Sioux Falls, SD; and his sister, Betty Hanson, Sioux Falls, SD. Tom was preceded in death by his son, James Lee Steineke, a great-grandson, Jeremy Ketcham, and his brothers, Melvin "Bud" and Frank. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1300 S. Sertoma Avenue.
