Note: Funeral Mass for Elrena Sabers was held at 11 a.m. Saturday 3-20-1982 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Salem, SD. Rev. Gerald Thury celebrated the Mass and burial was in the church cemetery. A scripture service was held on Friday evening at Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem, SD. Pallbearers were John Herschman, Patrick Seymour, David P. Sabers, Steven Sabers, Mike Sabers, Dave Sabers, Chad Dalrymple and Peter Heine. Elrena Godfrey was born 6-26-1907 at Anaconda, Montana to Joseph and Eleanor Godfrey. She moved to the Montrose, SD area as a small child and went to school there. After she finished her schooling she moved to Salem where she remained for the rest of her life. Elrena married Emil Sabers at Salem on 9-10-1929. Emil died on 12-28-1955 and Mrs. Sabers died at her home in Salem on 3-18-1982 at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 22 days. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Mrs. Sabers is survived by four sons; Darrell, Tucson, Arizona; Dick, Sioux Falls, SD; Don and Keith of Salem, SD; five daughters, Mrs. Jean Herschman, Great Falls, Montana; Sister Marie Celeste (Joanne), Aberdeen, SD; Mrs. William (Carol) Seymour, Wilmette, Illinois; Mrs. Frank (Karen) Dalrymple, Douglas, Wyoming; and Mrs. Charles (Margie) Heine, Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Joseph Godfrey and James B. Godfrey, Elgin, Illinois; Jack Herrick, Robbinsdale, Minnesota and one sister, Mrs. Frances Cerino of Anaconda, Montana. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
