Note: Dyersville (Iowa) Commercial July 20, 1961 ** Anton Roling, age 91, of New Vienna, Iowa died early Friday July 14 at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. He leaves one hundred forty one survivors. The funeral was held on Monday July 17, 1961 from the Kramer Funeral Home to St. Boniface Church in New Vienna at 9 am. Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery. The Rev Herbert Krieger, pastor of St. Patrick's parish in Colesburg, Iowa read the mass and the Rev Nicholas Krull, pastor of St. Boniface Parish, assisted at the graveside services. Pallbearers, all neighbors, were Al Lansing, Clement Lansing, Leander Vaske, Leo Gaul, Alfred Vorwald, and Gregor Vorwald. Mr. Roling was born at New Vienna, Iowa on August 24, 1869 the son of the late Bernard Roling and Theresa Halbur Roling. He married the former Josephine Schlichte of New Vienna and they farmed until his retirement. Surviving are two sons, Lawrence Roling of Colesburg, Iowa; and William Roling of New Vienna, Iowa; five daughters; Mrs. William (Lena) Roling of Dyersville, Iowa; Frances, Mrs. John Westhoff of Dubuque, Iowa; Mrs. Hilda Willenbring of Petersburg; Iowa; Henrietta, Mrs. John Sternhagen of Dyersville, Iowa; Leona, Mrs. Norbert Wessel of Peosta, Iowa. There are forty one grandchildren, ninety two great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, three sons, two daughters, four brothers and four sisters. Unity in Community -- St. Boniface Parish 150 years -- New Vienna, Iowa 100 years 1895-1995. Anton Roling was born August 24, 1869 and died July 14, 1961. He married Josephine Schlichte at New Vienna. Children born to them are John of Dyersville; Gregory and Lawrence of Colesburg; William of New Vienna; Lena (Mrs. William Roling) of Dyersville; Rose (Mrs. Henry Meyer) of New Vienna; Frances (Mrs. John Westhoff) of Dubuque; Hilda (Mrs. John Willenbring); and Henrietta, who was first married to Florian Bruggeman and her second marriage was to John Sternhagen of Dyersville. Also Leona (Mrs. Norbert Wessels) of Peosta, Iowa; Ardella died in infancy March 12, 1914. The 1900 census shows Anton & Josephine Roling farming in Delaware County, Colony Township, Iowa with four children.
