Note: Salem Special, Salem, SD October 1995 Funeral mass for Faye Murphy was held 12 Oct 1995 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem, SD. Fr. Joseph Ripp celebrated the Mass and interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Boyd Mc Gregor, Mike Lanners, Fred Schallenkamp, Jack Sabers, Barney Roling, and Paul Roling. Faye A. Roling, daughter of Ben F. and Coletta (Wahle) Roling, was born December 19, 1926 on a farm southwest of Salem, SD. She grew up in the Salem area and attended St. Mary's grade and high schools. After high school she went on to attend beauty school in Watertown, SD. On February 26, 1946 she married Norman F. Murphy at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem. They lived in Salem after their marriage and she ran Faye's Beauty Salon in her home for 13 years. In 1967 they moved to California where they lived for 21 years. She continued to fix hair and also worked in Janet Lee's Clothing Store while in California. They retired in 1988 and returned to Salem, SD where she lived the rest of her life. Faye died at her home on Tuesday, Oct 10, 1995 having reached the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 21 days. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Salem and of the Church Altar Society. Survivors include her husband, Norm of Salem, SD; three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Norma) Lanners of Laguna Hills, California; Mrs. Fred (Shanon) Schallenkamp of Ontario, California; and Mrs. Boyd (Dawn) Mc Gregor of Salem, SD; seven grandchildren, Kim and Kelly Lanners, Terri and Chad Schallenkamp, and Amber, April, and Beau Mc Gregor; and her mother, Coletta Roling of Salem, SD. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers.
