Note: Marshall, Minnesota Independent Wednesday, Dec 19, 1984 Services for Sylvester "Fat" Louis Spielmann, 71, of Marshall will be Thursday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Spielmann died Monday at his home from cancer of the brain and lungs. He was born at Hartford, SD on July 26, 1913 to Peter and Lucy (Lanners) Spielmann. His father died when he was 3 years old. His mother married Mike Kaiser in Hartford, SD and the family moved to a farm in Lyon County in 1917. He attended St. Joseph's Academy. On Nov. 24, 1938, he married Naomi de Austin at Holy Redeemer Parish in Marshall. He was employed by and became co-owner of the Texaco gas station; he was employed by the Marshall Tire Shop, Tony's Tire Shop; he owned Conoco bulk gas truck; he was employed by Cattoor Oil Co., Movilla Housing and Dubbledee Construction. He retired in 1978. Survivors include his wife; one son, Thomas of Marshall; four daughters; Vaughn Marie Nelson of Coon Rapids; Jeanne Eubanks of Richfield; Vicki Hunter of Watertown, SD; and Patti Gertner of Walnut Grove; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers; John and Lester of Marshall; Leo of Remsen, Iowa; and Joseph Kaiser of Fulda; and six sisters, Mrs. Arnold (Catherine) Culshaw of Slayton; Mrs. Bob (Agnes) Anderson of Ortonville; Mrs. Louis (Marion) Calvin of Marshall; Mrs. Charles (Cecelia) Snyder of Belle Plaine; Mrs. Joseph Gilloth of Sioux Falls, SD; and Mrs. Florence Van de Vere of Lake Benton. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and one brother.
