Note: Shirley Ann Uphoff Weber, resident of Big Stone City, SD passed away Thursday, March 28th, 2002, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Shirley was born on a farm south of Spencer, SD, in Hanson County on August 29th, 1941, to Julius and Francis Lentz Uphoff. She attended school at Farmer and Spencer, SD, until 1958, when she moved to Sioux Falls and eventually Winona, MN, where she graduated in 1959. Upon graduation, she returned to Sioux Falls for a job and subsequently met her husband-to-be, Richard C. Weber. They were united in marriage on May 9th, 1961, at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. They settled in Big Stone City, SD, where they resided for 29 years. She delivered rural mail from June, 1978, until her retirement in October of 2002. Her hobbies and interests included bird-watching, reading and bowling. Her other activities included the American Legion Auxiliary, National Rural Letter Carriers Association, St. Ann's Band, and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City. Shirley was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband. Her survivors include three sons, Stephen of Big Stone City, SD; Michael of Suffolk, VA; and Gregory of Bremerton, WA; two brothers, Eugene of Spencer, SD; James of Winona, MN; one grandchild; ten nieces and six nephews. Funeral services begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Big Stone City, SD, with burial in the church cemetery.
