Note:   (Research):Taken from Launceston Examiner 14th January 1854: page 2 A melancholy and fatal accident on Thursday evening about six o'clock Mary Hart age sixteen years the daughter of Mrs W Hart Senior and sister of Mr W Hart of Charles St Ironmonger, was drownedat the Third Basin. She had gone with her mother and other members of the family for the purpose of bathing and sslipped from a rock on which she was standing after dressing aand sshe sank at once. Her body was conveyed to the ressidence of her mother and an inquest was held yesterday at the Royal Oak Inn before the police magistrate who was also a coroner. A verdict of accidentally drowned was returned. A witness stated that of the places chosen for bathing, some of them were dangerous, the water alongside the rocks being very deep.
