a. Note:   King of the Visigoths 567-586, Leovigild ruled with his brother, King Liuva I, until his death in 572. In 578, Leovigild had control of the Iberian peninsula except the NW (held be the Suevi Goths). In 579, his son Hermangild married the Frankish (i.e. Catholic) princess Ingund and was converted (all Visigothic nobles were Arian). Leovigild continued the tolerance of Catholics started by his brother King Anthanagild until 580. In 585 he defeated and killed his son at Seville. That year also he conquered the Suevi. His other son, Recared, succeeded him to the throne.
