Note: King of Metz 511-534 - Son of Clovis I, King of the Franks, he inherited Metz in 511 at his death. His son, Theudebert, was already of age when he ascended to the throne. Early in his reign he sent his son to battle King Chlochilaich, a Dane who had invaded Metz. Theuderic then aided the Thuringian King Hermanfrid against his only living brother Baderic. Baderic was defeated, but the land promised Theuderic was not given. The four sons of Clovis then all fought Sigismund and Godomar, father and son Kings of the Burgundians. Sigismund was taken prisoner, and Theuderic married his daughter. Godomar was defeated, but Chlodomer, King of Orleans, was also killed in the battle. Theuderic then, with his brother Chlotar I and son Theudebert, attacked Thuringia to get his revenge with Hermanfrid. Thuringia was conquered, and Chlotar got Radegund, daughter of King Berthar (Harmanfrid's late brother). After making a treaty with his brother Childebert I, King of Paris, Theuderic died in 534. Upon his death the throne of Metz was up for grabs between Chlotar, Childebert, and Theudebert.
