His brother Richard is both mentioned in the document and witnessed it [Ref: Sanders Baronies p137(1)] during Gilbert's absense from England, his lands were in the care of the Earl of Arundel, the Earl of Chester, and Earl Warenne [Ref: Sanders Baronies p137(2)] on his death in 1231, Pevensey fell to the crown [Ref: Sanders Baronies p137]
