He was killed at the first Battle of St Albans on May 22, 1455 and was buried in St Alban's Abbey. He was created Count of Mortain on April 22, 1427, and Earl of Dorset on August 18 or 28, 1442. He was made Marquess of Dorset on June 24, 1443. He was first Earl of Somerset upon his brother John's death, but was later elevated to Duke of Somerset on March 31, 1448. He was made a Knight of the Garter in 1436. He married around 1431/5 : ELEANOR BEAUCHAMP She was born around 1407/8 at Wedgenock, Warwickshire. She died around March of 1466/8 at Baynard's Castle, London. She was the daughter of Richard Beauchamp, 13th Earl of Warwick by his first wife Elizabeth Berkeley, the daughter of Thomas Berkeley, 5th Lord Berkeley and Margaret de Lisle, Baroness Lisle. She had married first Thomas de Ros, 9th Baron de Ros, and had issue by him. She married third after Edmund's death Walter Rokesly.
