Note: N3 We have obtained information from the National Archives that a Littleton Nowlen enlisted in the Confederate army on Jan 8, 1862. He was mustered in as a Corporal. in Co. F, 14th Texas Cavalry. Johnson's Reg't Mounted Volunteers from Montague County Texas. His age was listed as 30 years. He was discharged on Nov 4, 1862 for medical reasons, a private of age 36. He was furnished with transportation in kind from Louden, Tennessee to Shreveport, LA and given travel pay for transportation back to Montague County, TX. No other information about him has been obtained. He recorded his place of birth as being Tennessee, the county is unreadable. His regiment was involved in two battles on Aug 30, 1862 in Richmond, Kentucky, which is just north of Louden, Tennessee which is where he probably received his injury. Mark Nowlen was told his father never returned from the war, and this is the only Nowlen listed as joining the Confederacy from Montague county, Texas. We can only assume Marks father is Littleton. We can find no documentation of a marriage or of his existence other than his war record. However, 1880 census indicates Marks father was born in Arkansas.
