His son William was know as William Edward Wiseman Jr. JR was used to tell the two Williams at the courthouse on legal documents or tax records. Janet A true register of all christeninges, mariages, and burialles in the parishe of St. James, Clarkenwell : from the yeare of Our Lorde God 1551 On May 18 1725 St. James, Clerkenwell, John and Mary Wiseman son William was Christened William Wiseman Ledger Book as William or someone wrote " Wm William,Lin(unclear) was born in City of London. In St James's Clerkenwell Parish, in the year Our Lord 1736 Neb the Second" It looks like someone wrote over and try to chance it to 1736. (William may or may not add the 36 to it. But I think by what I read that William add the 36 for then he would have been 15 when he came to America.) It the story is true. "Could this below be William Wiseman family in England? To answer my question is NO!!!. If William was born in 1725 he would be 98 years old when he died. Who knows for I was not there and by now one is live who can help JOHN WISEMAN m'd MARY STORY on 29 SEP 1719 Saint Mary The Virgin At The Walls, Colchester, Essex, England Child WILLIAM WISEMAN Christening: 18 MAY 1725 Saint James, Clerkenwell, London, England Extracted birth or christening record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date William Wiseman has had family story/legend that goes that William when he was 13 he stowaway on ship bound for America. There has been no prove of this story. The story/legend goes on to say that William Wiseman stowaway with his life long friends William Davis and William Pendly. Not this story is not true for William Pendly was born in Virginia and died in Burke County, NC before 1802. William Davis could be a member of Davis families of Virginia. There was a Richard Davis who appears in records around the time Davis Davenport was said to born. Some have said that Richard was his father and his mother was Miss Davenport. There other Davis living near or about Culpeper County, Virginia before 1759 This rules this story out. Next stowaway story is William Wiseman at the age of 13 came with his older brothers. The brothers left their brother William in America and they stowaway for Australia. Now the date for the brothers stowaway for Australia had to happen after 1770 for Captain Cook claimed New South Wales for England in 1770. This rules thsi story out. My question I have about the stowaway story; could William Wiseman hear this story about someone in family when was young. In hear it so much as William as he got older he thought he was the stowaway. Could a family member stowaway years before William was born. This stowaway be name William too and made good America? This Wiseman family member who came to Ameica send word back about himself. William being youngest was send to the stowaway Wiseman. What we do know. . 1759 "William Wiseman now age 23 (23-1759=1736), is in Culpeper County, Virginia and witnessed the will of Robert Coveington, From the Will book A 1749-1770. It was suggested by Allen Poe, that William Wiseman came over from London, England, well educated and a young School Teacher, since he probably did not get that education on the frontier of Virginia, and it was common practice to have the School Master write wills and then he would also he a witness. 1761/2 William Wiseman, age 25, marries Mary Davenport. The date of this marriage est from the birth of first child 1763 The date of their marriage could be about April of 1762. Thomas Davenport, Mary father, was in Culpeper from 1753-1770 1763 William Wiseman is on the Jury, May 1763 in Culpeper County, Virginia for case John Tackett v Richard Price, so the first child Thomas Wiseman is born in Culpeper County, Virginia January 19,1764 Culpeper Co., VA, William Brown v.William Wiseman, Judgement for Plaintiff This probably helped William Wiseman and Mary Davneport decide to travel down to South Carolina, where her sister Sophia Davenport and her husband William White had gone to be near William White's father and mother James Taylor White and Elizabeth Poe/Powe. 1765 Dorothy Wiseman, 2nd child of William Wiseman, states in the 1850 of Yancey Co., NC as the wife of David Baker that she was born in 1765 in South Carolina. 1766 Sept. 18,1766 they probate Robert Covington's will in Culpeper Co., VA. "Exhibited to the Court by John Strother, John Claton swore that the said decedent did sign seal and publish this his last will and that he say William Wiseman subscibe the same "I get from this that William Wiseman was not present, giving more evidence that William and Mary had indeed gone down to South Carolina 1769 4th child Mary "Polly" Wiseman Puett says in the 1850 census of Caldwell Co. NC " age 182" born in Virginia, cannot read, She is living with her son John Puett age 57. In the 1860 Census of Caldwell Co. NC it say she is born in NC. At this time Polly is 92 and John 67. Question who gave the census? When Polly died, John puts on her headstone "nealy 100", when in fact she was 96. 1771 "I, Reuben White of the Parish of Saint David in Craven County, South Carolina, planter and surveryor, affection for my sister-in-law, Sophia White (Sophia Davenport, sister of Mary) wife of my brother William White of the same place, Planter February 1775 Martin Davenport's last record in Culpeper Co., VA. 1775/6 The Davenports move to Burke, now Caldwell Co. NC, "was The place to live back then". It is 2 miles, give or take, from the present Caldwell Co., line, in present Burke Co. and about 5 miles from the people of the John's River. 1778 Martin Davenport 360 acres on John's River and Wilson Creek (now Caldwell Co) joining lines of James Prichard and Andrew Rudolph Jr. Allen Poe says "This very valuable farm land was told was sold to Alexander Perkins by 1810" "but Martin Davenport keeps 300 acres he own near the John's River," now down Brawell Road in Caldwell County, NC. Also on June 11,1778,Thomas Davenport's 1800 acres on Wilson's Creek joins John Browning and Andrew Rudolph. 1778,Thomas Davenport 180 acres on Wilson's Creek, west fork of John's River, Alexander Cole and William Wiseman are chain carriers. Robert alson gave the information for the "stories" printed, which we now know to be not true. The 1820 census of Burke Co. NC William Wiseman is living next to John Ollis. At one time there was a Browning Cemetery on the land of Old Robert Wiseman Farm because Forest fires it has been lost. It is know that Samuel Bright deed to John Browning 200 acres on the Toe River. John Browning to William Wiseman's brother-in-law and he stays in Burke Co. NC until 183/15 when he moves to Giles County, Tennessee and his sons follow him John Browning is Martin Davenport brother- in- law and since Mary Davenport Wiseman is Martin sister this would make William Wiseman brother-in-law. Martin is John Bowning Sr brother-in-law not because Martin married Jane Sarah Browning after his first wife died. But because Martin sister Dorothy married John Browning. John Browning is a brother to Martin 2nd wife Jane Sarah. So all the men are brother-in-laws one way or the other. It is said that Aunt Lottie burn her husband Uncle Robert family stuff after his death. 1778 William Wiseman is buried near his home at Sunny Brook Farm. Although his gravestone gives his date of death as 1830, he probably passed away in the winter of 1822/ 1823. His widow Lydia filed estate papers for his estate in March 1823 in Morganton William WISEMAN on 19-E. He never had a US Government tombstone, his relatives had made a nice marker when 19-E was widened. Dr. Fink said "I was told by Myron Houston, who lived nearby at Sunny Brook Store, that William and 2 more adult graves and 3 child size graves were paved over and the marker set up to remember them." Who were the other two adults? " They seem to think it was his wives. His first Mary DAVENPORT died in 1796 and then he married Lydia BEDFORD. William actually died in 1823, but the marker says 1830 because he was dead by the 1830 census." Was he a soldier too? "I believe we found that William and his son Thomas took a wagon load of materials and made shoes for soldiers. The DAR takes all kinds of service to the patriots or the country as grounds for membership, but you have to prove a direct line that includes marriage." William Wiseman Ledger Book William wrote:" Wm William,Lin(unclear) was born in City of London. In St James's Clerkenwell Parish, in the year Our Lord 1739 Neb the Second" It looks like someone wrote over and try to chance it to 1736. (William may or may not add the 36 to it. But I think by what I read that William add the 36 for then he would have been 15 when he came to America.) For Mary Wiseman he wrote: " Mary Wiseman the wife of Wm Wiseman decaused June 17,1796. In the fifty fourth year of her age. (Note: William writes in 2nd person but this handwritting has been proven to be his. There was a Wiseman Bible to compare his handwritting to. But The Bible has been lost with the years. This is so sad. Let us pray that one day it will show back up).
