The following article appeared in the Dayton Daily New July 4, 1922: Egidius Wenz of 203 South Perry street celebrated his 80th birthday anniversary Sunday at "Shady Bank" the summer home of William Bossmann and Louis J. Wenz on the Old Troy Pike. Mr. Wenz was 80 years old July 5. Seventy five years ago he came to Dayton by canal boat from Piqua to make his home. Egidius Wenz, 91, a resident of Dayton for many years died Monday a 5 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Trick, 720 Troy st., where he had been living during the past five years. Born in Gernzheim, Germany, he came to America with his parents when he was six years of age. A short time later he settled in Dayton. His marriage to Mary Anne Christ occurred here in 1868. She preceded him in death five years ago. He was a faithful member of Emmanuel church for 80 years. Recently he had been going to Our Lady of the Rosary church. Six of the 10 children born to him and his wife survive. They are Mrs. Katherine Bucher, Joseph Wenz, Mrs. Mary Deis, Mrs. Elizabeth Trick, Edward Wenz and Mrs. Carrie Amann; 30 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
