  Halstead/Christian p. 274: married by Peter P. Wedel. Mennonite Weekly Review - 11-9-2000: Carroll Waltner was born April 7,1923, on a farm in Hutchinson County, southwest of Freeman, S.D. He was the oldest child of John P.M. and Bertha Waltner. He died Sept. 22, 2000, at his home in Freeman. Carroll was baptized Oct. 9, 1938, by P.R. Schroeder at Salem Mennonite Church. He attended Freeman Academy and Junior College and taught country school for one year. Carroll served in Civilian Public Service at Fort Collins, Colo., and Gulfport, Miss., during World War II. He met his wife, Esther Wedel, in Gulfport. Carroll and Esther were married in Moundridge, Kan., June 8, 1948, and shared 52 years of life together. After their marriage, Carroll and Esther started fanning northwest of Hurley. He farmed for 43 years, and they remained on the farm an additional six years after his retirement. For the last three years, they continued to enjoy their retirement in Freeman. Carroll enjoyed nature, including driving through the country looking at the state of the farmland, looking for wildlife and gardening. He enjoyed visiting, including attending fann sales and community events. Carroll is survived by his wife, Esther; a daughter, Jorgiann and her husband George Glubka of Minneapolis; two brothers, Gene of Marion and John of Freeman; and two sisters, Elaine Regier of Mountain Lake and Ramona Hanns of Saskatoon, Sask. is NOT responsible for the content of the GEDCOMs uploaded through the WorldConnect Program.
