In 1879 Christian was ordained elder by Elder Jacob Stucky <http://www.gameo.org/encyclopedia/contents/stucky_jacob> of Moundridge, Kansas, who also baptized 19 individuals, the first Mennonite baptism among the pioneers in this area. Together with Friedrich C.
