a. Note:   . in 1838," which was interpreted to mean "died in 1838." It meant "dead in 1838," and for that reason she would not qualify as an heir under legislation of that year. For several other people, "dead in 1838" was written out in the text. The lawyer went back and added a written notation to Morning's name because he had left it out originally. He was cramped for space and abbreviated "dead." > "Nobody knows when Morning died, but based on other evidence it was long before 1838 - most likely in 1814, after the birth of Thomas. Early descendants spoke of "two families," the break being between Thomas and Elijah. We have descendants of Elijah trying to qualify for DAR by going back to Morning Sanders, daughter of a proven Rev. War soldier; but Elijah was almost certainly not a son of Morning."
