SILVER CELEBRATES HER 100TH BIRTHDAY Ida May Cresawn Silver of Black Mountain celebrated her 100th birthday on May 2, 1998 at her home, where she has lived for 62 years. with a barbecue cookout attended by family and friends. She was born May 1, 1898, in Spruce Pine. She was married to Corbett Lee Silver, who died January 21, 1978. Her children are, Jack E. Silver of Goldsboro, Merle Silver Koester of Asheville, Lena Silver Campbell of Hartford, CT, Nelda S. Edwards and Joyce S. Garrison of Birmingham, AL. She has 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Silver is a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Black Mountain and she loves to quote the Bible. She has worked hard all her life because she loves working and thinks it makes her healthy. She is an accomplished flower gardener and she especially loves working in her yard. </b>
b. Note:   <b>Asheville Citizen-Times Wednesday, May 31, 2000 IDA MAY SILVER BLACK MOUNTAIN -- Ida May Cresawn Silver, 102, of Padgettown Road, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000. Born on May 1, 1898, in Spruce Pine, she was a daughter of Carson Tilman and Elizabeth McKinney, the seventh of eight children born to Carson and Elizabeth. Mrs. Silver and her late husband, Corbett Lee Silver, who died in 1978, had lived in Black Mountain since 1936. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. She is survived by her five children, Jack Silver of Goldsboro, Merle Koester of Asheville, Lena Campbell of Wethersfield, CT, Nelda Edwards and Joyce Garrison of Birmingham, AL; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Memorial Park with the Reverend Dr. Francis Chesson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Brigman's Funeral Service in Black Mountain.
