He was corporal at age 36, assigned to Lt. Col. Jonathan Bagley's Regiment of the Massachusetts Provincials and sent to Fort William Henry in northern New York Colony in 1756. The regiment was charged with building boats for the English army in anticipation of an invasion of the French and their Indian allies through Lake Cham0plain and into Lake George. Jonathan had be trained shipwright from Newbury.
He was born in Salisbury, lived in Newbury from 1743 to 1790 when he moved to Meuthen, MA.
There was "A List of Persons that Refuse to Sign against either Buying, Selling, or Consuming, in their families any Bohea or India Tea" dated 4/3/1770 and Jonathan Norton and father in law William Couch were two of the 51 persons on the list.
