Ezekiel JACKSON b. July 15, 1826 at Georgetown Ridge, Miller Twp, Dearborn Co., IN d. February 9, ??? ** Ezekiel J. Jackson was born in MD and came to this locality (now Miller Township, Dearborn Co., IN) with his father, John Jackson, Sr. (1746-1814) and family in 1796 or 1798. They settled on Georgetown Ridge being about the first to build a home there.
He was for years a representative of the State of Indiana and served in Indiana Legislature five times during 1820-1830, in the days of the whig supremacy.
Judge Alfred Cotton said in his Cotton Keepsake book, page 444, that old Ezekiel Jackson was twice badly bitten by a copper head snake.
County history records said Ezekiel and brother Enoch bought Sec. 21 and 22 of Miller Township in 1830-31. Earlier in 1815 Ezekiel bought Sec. 22 of Miller Township. This farm was later owned by Ezekiels oldest son, Isaac Jackson (1803-?) and then sold to Omer Renck. They have the original deed made on a skin sheet signed by President James Monroe 1818 about 120 acres. This deed is now owned by my sister-in-law and husband, Donna and John O. Renck, Logan, Dearborn Co., IN (1975). *********** DISCREPANCIES:
There is a discrepancy as to death month and year of death. In one location it is stated as November and in another location stated as September 1858 in the John Jackson Genealogy; Death date listed as February 17, 1835 in the Ezekiel J. Jackson Family Genealogy and as September 17, 1836 in A Biographical Directory Of The Indiana General Assembly.
Also, the John Jackson Genealogy stated that Ezekiel Jackson, Sr. married his niece, Rhoda Wooters b. October 5, 1825 d. September 1, 1845. The Ezekiel J. Jackson Family Genealogy sourced and compiled by Donna J. Skidmore Barlow, Benbrook, TX has proven that this is not true through her research and documentation. *********** Ezekiel J.
