There on 21 Nov 1835 he joined Capt. Andrew Brisco's Company of Liberty Volunteers. He was honorably discharged on 31 Dec 1840. Wilbur spent the rest of his life in journalism. He began publishing "THE GALVESTON NEWS" with his friend Michael Cronican in 1843. Wilbur and Catherine had six children. They lived at the corner of 16th & Church Streets in Galveston, TX.
