Note:   Found his middle name in his bible which he received March 15,1859 and handed down to his youngest child, Ann Eliza in May,1864. -------------- Builder of Marblehead Lighthouse(Photo) Lighthouse finishedJune, 1822--------------He was living in Ireland at the time of war between theCatholics and Protestants. Hebelonged to the anti-Catholic group called the "Orangemen". Oneof his ancestors waspiked to death by the Catholics. Wm's wife, Jane Reid, sewed asteel plate in his clothes over his heart in case the Catholicstried to shoot him. When they attempted to shoot him and thesteel plate protected him, he was imprisioned in Ireland. Hiswife got word to the Masonic Order in England and told them ofthe imprisonment.Since he was a Mason, they secured his release and he leftshortly after for America.He had at least two brothers, John and Alexander. It is thoughtthat they later came to America and settled in the West.--------------When his wife, Jane, died he then married Lydia Hartshorn whowas the sister of Wyatt Hartshorn who had married William'sdaughter Jane B.
