3. Excerpt from "The Cat Spring Strory", Cat Spring Agricultural Society, p. 76 (1956): "Vincent Joe Schiller came from Czechoslovakia in 1853 (1852?). They left primarily for religious freedom. Being Protestants, they were persecuted by the Catholics in those days. They settled in the vicinity of Cat Spring and joined in farming with other Czech families who had previously settled there. There were several brothers in the Shiller family who emigrated to Texas about the same time and settled on farms: Joe, John, Vincent, Bernhard and Carl."
