Although Niram and Levi lived in LaCrosse, they engaged in lumbering operations in Clark County in the area of Withee which bears their name. Beginning about 1852, they purchased a considerable amount of land in Clark Co. and later sold it mostl y to Scandinavian immigrants. The land records in Neillsville record dozens of such transactions. The History of LaCrosse, WI, Biographical Sketches, p. 808 gives brief information on Niram and Levi. Niram came to Wisconsin 1852 and to LaCrosse in 1853. He engaged in the lumber business in Clark Co. He married Louisa Wood who as born in New York. They had three children. Levi was born in Maine, and came to LaCrosse in 1853. He followed the lumber business in the northern part of the state. He married Louisa Smith and had one son.
