a. Note:   hursday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian church with Rev. O. D. Slater in charge and burial was made in the Alexis cemetery. Mary W. Patterson, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Stuart Patterson was born in Ontario County, NY, Nov. 13 1843. As a girl she moved with her parents to Pennsylvania. When 17, she came with her parents to Illinois and settled near Biggsville. In the Biggsville community she spent the following 10 years, much of the time being spent in the school rooms. She was a student in Monmouth College and a teacher in the rural schools of Warren County. Her marriage to Bradner Wixson occured in 1880 at Burlington, IA. Mr. and Mrs. Wixson came immediately to the Wixson farm southeast of Alexis. In Alexis and vicinity, the remainder of her life was spent. To Mr. and Mrs. Wixson were born three daughters, Sadie A., Pearl and one who died in infancy. Mrs. Wixson was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, and three sisters. In early life Mrs. Wixson joined the United Presbyterian church. In 1911 she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church. In both places she served her Lord conscientiously. Her faith sustained her through the problems and the priviledges of life and led her with unfaltering step to meet her Lord face to face. Mrs. Wixson was a mother of many fine traits of character. She came of pioneer stock. She faced personally pioneer problems. Perhaps the lessons of pioneer days were used to advantage when, at Mr. Wixson's death she was left the entire responsibility of rearing the young daughters. Besides the two daughters, Mrs. Sadie Lair and Mrs. Pearl McKelvie, both of Alexis, Mrs. Wixson leaves one sister, Mrs. Hattie Clayton of Cameron, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Carrie Patterson of Monmouth. There are also two granddaughters, Mrs. Frances Spicer and Mrs. Louise Lyons both of Monmouth; five grandsons, Cecil and Leroy McKelvie of Los Angeles, CA; Walter McKelvie, Leland and Raymond Lair, of Alexis. There are four great grandsons.
