ROGER (DE SCALES), LORD SCALES, son and heir, knight, aged 22 and more in September 1369. In 1367 he was going beyond the seas by the King's licence; on 10 October 1369 the King took his homage and fealty and ordered his father's lands to be delivered to him; from 1372 to 1386 he was often in commissions; summoned to Parliament from 28 December 1375 to 3 September 1385. In 1381 he was one of the knights compelled to march with and wait upon John Lystere of Norwich. In 1382 Roger, Robert de Wylughby, knight, and Henry de Ferrers of Groby, were found to be next heirs to William de Ufford, Earl of Suffolk. In 1385 summoned to serve against the Scots.
He married Joan, daughter of John DE NORTHWOOD; and died 25 December 1386 in Spain, his death being due to the climate. Will, as Roger Lord Scales, Lord of Neucells, dated at Hickling 6 March 1385. Joan survived him, and married, 2ndly, Edmund DE THORPE the younger, knight, before 3 March 1388. She died just before or just after 6 January 1414/5.
