Jeannie Finch, email@example.com July 2001. "The DeWitt County Militia Roll - 1861-62 had voluntary and reserves. Jacob Long and his oldest son Lewis were in the reserves in Clintonia Township. Each township was ordered to furnish a list of all free , white able-bodied male citizens between the ages of eighteen and forty-five who were subject to military duty. Sarah, Lewis, Malachi, Minor, and John Long moved to Greenwood County, Kansas in 1870. Lewis moved to Linn County, Missouri, around 1880 and Malachi moved to Sullivan County, Missouri, about the same time. Lewis long was born in 1841 in DeWitt County, Illinois. He married Mary Jane Roberts March 12, 1863 in DeWitt County, IL. They moved to Greenwood Co, KS in 1870 where Mary Jane died. Lewis married Mary F. Havens, January 11, 1874 in Greenwood Co. Lewis and Mary Jane had four children. Lewis and Mary Havens had six children."

Mary Lee Gentry, Aug 2003, from Harvey Pearson. Lewis Long was born in Macon County, Illinois, December 20, 1839, and departed this life, May 8, 1929, age 89 years, 4 months and 19 days. He was united in marriage to Mary J. Roberts March 11, 1863. To this union was born three children, Anna Haven of Laclede, who preceded him in death, March 28, 1916, Laura Havens, Browning and William A. of Sudan, Texas. He was married to Mary Frances Haven, January 11, 1874. To this union was born 8 children, two dying in infancy, Harry Edward Long of Milan, Mrs. Ben Haynes of Larned Kansas, Lewis of Linneus, Emma Peavler, North Salem, Margaret M. of Browning, and D. I. of Kansas City. Mr. Lewis was a resident of Browning twenty-three years. Services were conducted at the Browning Church of Christ by Rev. M. A. Hale. Burial was in the Knifong Cemetery.
