"Harmen Harmens van berckeloo...In his early twenties he joined the Labadist movement, and in 1683 we find him at Bohemia Manor in Maryland, where even today there is Burkelow Creek as a reminder of the family. On Oct 15, 1694, at a meeting of the Maryland Assembly, he was ordered to take the prescribed oath instead of the Oath of Allegiance; this he did on Feb 27, 1695-96, before the Council. In the meantime he had been naturalized and married Margaret ___. He was a brewer by trace and was living in cecil County, Maryland, at the time he made his will. In the instrument, dated Mar 15, 1728, and proved Dec 2, 1728, he names his wife, son Abell, who was a sheriff of Cecil County, and the latter's wife, Catherine, who was a daughte rof Caspar Hermen, 3rd Lord of Bohemia Manor. Also mentioned were Abell's children: Harmen, William, Catherine, and Margaret."
