Note continued: n of the Acadian Census of 1678 was published in the French Canadian and Acadian Genealogical Review in Spring issue, Volume II, No. 1, 1979 on pages 47-66. (At the time, Father d'Entremont was living in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.)
Father d'Entremont correlated the census records and estimated the birth dates of each child in this census. Father d'Entremont's footnotes as to the origin of each child are quite extensive and could not be added to this page though they will perhaps be added to another page as an addendum to this information in the future. However, it should be said that the years that Father d'Entremont assigns to each child did not appear in the actual census but certainly facilitates an understanding of the census itself.
He further ascertains that in comparing the census of 1671 to the census of 1686, that this census was possibly taken in the latter part of 1678, but more likely in the early part of 1679.

Text: The 1678 census of Acadia presented in the following eight messages was publishedin the "French Canadian and Acadian Genealogical Review", Volume VII, No. 1, Spring 1979, pp. 47-66.It was translated into English for publication by Rev. Clarence J. d'Entremont. He has inserted some comments insquare brackets [ ] to clarify portions of the census. The original article was profusely footnoted. I have removedall of his notes as to the possible identification of the children in the census, but have left his estimate asto each child's year of birth following their age as it appears in the census, but have left his estimate as toeach child's year of birth following their age as it appears in the census. These years did NOT appear in the census. From his comparison to the census of 1671 and 1686, he had determined that this census was possibly taken in thelater part of 1678, but more likely in the early part of 1679.

Telegraph-Journal, Thursady, July 28, 1994; p. A4 It is believed that Antoine Bourg, the founder of the family in Acadia, came originally from the parish of Martaize, near Loudun, France, and arrived at Port-Royal around 1640.
He married Antoinette Landry around 1643. Their grandson, Alexandre, settled at Grand-Pré, where he was appointed a royal notary and official surveyor of lands.
At the time of the Deportation, several Bourg families were able to escape and some of them settled at Menoudie and Memramcook in New Brunswick.
Among the Bourg families who were victims of the Deportation there was Joseph Bourg and his wife Madeleine Hache, the parents of Franç-Anne Bourg who is believed to be the first child to be baptized on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

Antoine Bourg was born 1609 in Martaize, France in the region of Loudun, department de la Vienne. He arrived in Acadia in 1636 and established his home at Port Royal where he married Antoniette Landry that same year. Antoine was the progenitor of the Bourg line in Acadia. Some of his children established their homes at Cobequid. Many of his descendants were to flee Colbequid prior to the expulsion in order to escape the English and sought sanctuary on Isle-St. Jean which was a French Colony.
