Note: he was married, she dropped the name Emma and used her maiden name Walker as her middle name. She taught English before her marriage and on several occasions afterwards. In 1969 she acquired a floor loom and became a weaver of afghans and bedspreads. In 1971 at the age of 59, she opened her own yarn store in Charleston, Illinois, which she ran until her retirement in 1979.
