Note: e state of Massachusetts. He entered the army at age 16. He was a member of Gen. George Washington's Life Guard, was in the relief expedition to Ft. Stanwix, and returned east just in time to wittness the surrender of Burgoyne at Saratoga. He fought nearly 7 years during this time under the following officers: Capt. Kellogg, Col. Porter's Regiment, Hampshire Co, MA. Capt. Oliver Lyman and Gen. Morgan Lewis.
Zadoc(k) Briggs is listed as a member of the Methodist Church in Bernardston,MA, 7 Dec 1811
Zadock bought 100 acres of land in Adams twp, Washington Co, OH 4 Jul 1816 for the price of $1,350.00. He also bought additional land in Washington Co in 1817, 2 sections lying along the Muskingum River for the sum of $500. (Washington Co land recs, vol. 14, pg. 364; vol. 15, pg. 309)
The will of Zadock Briggs was executed on 26 Apr 1822, and probated 12 Dec 1823. His will stating: "My wife Sally one half of all my whole estate and the use thereof during her life, to do what she disontly entered & I give my oldest Sun Henry Briggs one Dollar out of my estate and furthermore I give to Eli Fox my sun in law ten dollars out of my estate besides I have given him fifty six acres of land on the south side of the river & I give my sun Ansel Briggs one quarter of all my estate after my deseas and his mother's deseas only he must pay one hundred dollars to his sister Asenath Jacobs furthermore I give my sun Zara Briggs one Quarter of all my estate after our deseas only he must pay his sister Sally Hayne One hundred and ten dollars, because she did not have as much as Polly and furthermore I give to my Sun Marcus Briggs one quarter of my estate after our deseas & he must pay his sister Polly Very the sum of forty dollars and I give to my sun Franklin Briggs the other quarter of all my estate & Franklin must pay his sister Polly Very forty dollars after our deseas & these legeses air to be paid in two years after our deseas this my last will and testament this my hand and seal in the 26th twenty six of April of the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two & Ansel Briggs I appoint to be my Executor and to see all things are settled" (copied as written) Sworn to before Lardine Stone,J P
