Our mother, Anchorage, Alaska, resident Patricia "Pat" Jean Macatee Thompson, 89, passed away on Feb. 29, 2016, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by family. She was born on July 24, 1926, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Charles and Helen Macatee. She grew up near Griffith Park in L.A., the third from the youngest in a family of ten children. Shortly after the end of WWII, mom traveled as a secretary with the U.S. Government to Japan, the Philippines and Hawaii. Her last position took her Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, where she met Dad, Crist O. Thompson. Mom and Dad were married on Jan. 21, 1951, in La Jolla, Calif. They settled into the "brown house" on Dahl Lane in Spenard, where they raised eight children. Mom was a devote Catholic, was involved with the Legion of Mary and Catholics United for the Faith. She was a dedicated mother and proud of all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom loved the organic garden that she and dad cultivated over the years. She loved flowers, wild roses. As we left the nest, mom found time to travel: pilgrimages to Rome and the Vatican, and Hawaii to reunite with her siblings and various trips to the "Lower 48" for college graduations and family reunions. Mom was preceded in death by our father, Crist; and our youngest brother, Peter; and son-in-law, Phil Fisher; her parents; and five of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her oldest brother, Claude Macatee, 99, of Hawaii; brother, William "Bud" Macatee of Anchorage; and her sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of California and Sister Mary Grace Macatee of Iowa; her children and spouses, Tina and Cliff Hansen of Gig Harbor, Wash., Craig Thompson and Debra Johnson, Pam Fisher, Darryl and Bridget Thompson and Mary "DeDe" Hodsdon of Anchorage, Marc Thompson and Eric and Roberta "Birdy" Thompson of Eagle River, Alaska; 24 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family gives heartfelt thanks to mom's many caregivers, Preferred Care, Alzheimer's of Alaska, Providence Hospice and the many friends that allowed mom to pass away in her own home. The family request that any donations be made to Alzheimer's of Alaska, in lieu of flowers. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Saint Nicholas of Myra, 2200 Arctic Blvd. in Anchorage, visitation and rosary will start at noon followed by the liturgy.
