Living with Seth was his wife Eliza, age 36, NC, daughter Mary, 15, NC, son Elhu R., 12, NC, daughter Eliza, 9. NC, John, 7, NC, Eve, 4, NC, and son Nathan, 2, GA. Seth lived next to his father and his many of his brothers. Seth and Eliza could not read or write. Seth Abernathy accompanied his brother-in-law, James Keever, to Atlanta to retrieve the clothing and collect the pay of two of James' sons, who had died in Confederate service. Daniel F. Keever and Thomas J. Keever both enlisted in Bartow County in 1862, and both died in Confederate hospitals in Atlanta. James Keever and Seth Abernathy signed an oath, which is now on file in the Georgia Archives, stating that James was the father of the two boys.
