a. Note:   t.html Have seen middle name as Knox and Kerry. 1860 Polk Co, TN Census James York 8 ??, 58-391. 1870 Polk Co, TN Census James York 20 TN; 46/115/115. According to the 1929 obituary of James Knox York, he came from Tennessee in 1871 to the Harrison area of Boone Co, AR. Apparently, his mother and other family members accompanied him. Until her death at about age 92 (it is said), Mary Barbara York lived at the community of Bergman in Boone Co, AR, with the family of her daughter, Martha York, whose husband was John Woods, and the family of her son, Joseph Abraham York, whose wife was Samantha Caroline Watkins. It is said that she died suddenly while sitting in front of the fireplace. She had asked her son, Joseph Abraham York, for a coal from the fire with which to light her pipe. As she handed him her pipe, and as he was bending over to get the hot coal, she fell back dead in her chair. She was buried in the Woods Cemetery there with a field stone marker. This information came from Ora Louise Garvin of 902 South Clifford, Harrison, Arkansas 72691, via Charles W. York of Austin, Texas. I am including in this compilation a portion of a letter written by Mrs Garvin. Capps, the name of a community mentioned in this letter, is also in Boone Co, AR. Letter by Marion S. Craig, M. D. Feb 25 1992.
