Obituary received from Charlie Lyle, 4 JAN 2001: [source: Caney, KS newspaper] James R. Flecther was born January 2, 1839, and departed this life September 28, 1927, at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 26 days. He enlisted in 1861 as a private in the Civil War, serving his country for 3 years and 6 months. He was married to Sarah M. Vives, August 8, 1865 in Adair County, Kentucky. The wife preceeded him to the great beyond February 27, 1923. To this union ten children were born: five sons and five daughters. They were left to mourn his departure, four sons and two daughters and several grandchildren. His children are: Mrs. Frank Ross of Yale, Okla; and Mrs. S. F. Hooper, of Sedan, Kansas. Elijah and Floyd of Longton, KS. Woodruff at home who cared for his father through his affliction. Florence Dalsing, Mrs. Amarilla Mayberry and infant daughter and son 16 years of age having passed on. He was converted at about the age of 84 years and united with the General Baptist Church and his faith was strong in his last days. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 29, at St. Charles Cemetery, conducted by Rev. E. E. Carnus taking for his text, Job 5:26, 'Though shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in, in his season. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.
