  'HIRAM DIETZ and COMFORT E. MILLER
  Hiram Dietz, the seventh child and fourth son of Christian Friedrich('Frederric') Dietz and Catharina Bost Dietz, was born in 1829 inMcMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee. In 1844, at the age of 15, hemigrated with his parents and some of his brothers and sisters to thefoot of Pigeon Mountain, just west of Lafayette in Walker County, Georgia. On the 1850 U.S. Census of Walker County, Hiram is enumerated in thehousehold of Frederric and Catharina, and his age is given as 21. Around 1855 Hiram married Comfort E. Miller in Walker County. Hiramand Comfort had only one child: John B. Dietz. On the 1860 U.S. Census ofWalker County, they are enumerated with Hiram as head of household, alongwith his wife Comfort E. (age 24, born in Georgia) and a 3-year-old sonJohn B. Next-door to Hiram and Comfort is his sister Rachel, with a'boarder and farmer' named William B. Owen. Comfort had died by 1870, and Hiram was living alone with his13-year-old son Jack. Some- time in the 1870's, Hiram and Jack moved overto Catoosa County. Then on 4 March 1876 the Dietz property in WalkerCounty was sold; and on 6 July 1876 Hiram purchased over 145 acres, LotNo. 91, 9th District, 4th Section, in Catoosa County, Georgia, from C. A.Cloud for $2920. This was just north of his brother Daniel's property. Hiram never remarried and he is listed on the 1880 U.S. Census ofCatoosa County living with Jack and Ellen. Hiram died in July 1890 and is believed to be buried inDailey Hill Cemetery without a marker, since that is where his son andgrandsons are all buried.
