Title: 1816 Chortitza Colony Census (October, 1816)
Title: Loewen Family Tree
Author: Petkau, Viktor
Note: In the 1801 and 1802 Chortitza Colony Censuses he is listed at Neuendorf #42 (B. H. Unruh, p. 256) and in the 1808 Census at Neuendorf #31 (B. H. Unruh, p. 270). In the Oct 1816 Census he is listed at Neuendorf #25. The 1808 Chortitza Colony Vital Records record the marriage of a Jacob Loewen to a Katharina Dyck in Neuendorf on 28 Oct 1808. It would seem that Jacob Loewen (b. ca 1777) was the one who married Katharina Dyck since there are no other Jacob Loewens known to have lived in the Chortitza Colony at that time who could have gotten married. However, the death of Jacob Loewen's wife Margaretha isn't recorded in the 1808 Chortitza Colony Vital Records and the 1808 Census indicates that Jacob Loewen's wife Margaretha was still alive at the time the census was compiled (ca Sep 1808). In the Oct 1816 Census his wife's name is given as Margareta, suggesting that she was the same woman that he was married to in 1808. Additional research is needed to determine if Jacob Loewen (b. ca 1777) married a Katharina Dyck in 1808 or if a different Jacob Loewen married her (Tim Janzen, 7 Nov 2010).
