Notes
a. Note:   One record says he was born 18 Mar 1838. Peter Toews delivered freight in Russia. He emigrated from Russia to Steinbach, Manitoba on the S.S. Hibernian NO.63 leaving on August 27, 1874. He was Baptized on Pentecost 1858, in the "Grossegemeinde". He and his wife Elizabeth remained in this church for 12 years. Having come considerably under the influence of the "Kleinegemeinde" through Elizabeth's people, shortly before they left for North America they became members of the "Kleinegeminde", then a group of about 125 members. Since Peter was the only member of the "Kleinegemeinde" in the Toews family, he was the first to leave Russia and the only one to go to Manitoba. Peter's lot in Steinbach was #9, right where the Towne Square Mall now stands. (Lincoln Kroeker - 1998)
