He lived to be quite old and was blind in his later years. He was buried in the Blumstein cemetery, Manitoba. Unconfirmed reports say that Peter's blindness was a result of glaucoma. 1880 Village Census of the Mennonite W. Reserve, p. 316 incorrectly says that Peter spent his last years living with his son Gerhard. In the 1891 Canada Census Peter and his wife were listed with Gerhard Rempel (b. 16 Mar 1858) #335512. However, that Gerhard moved to Saskatchewan prior to Peter's death. The census says that Peter Rempel was the uncle of Gerhard Rempel. It seems most likely that Peter Rempel was Gerhard Rempel's great uncle, not his true uncle. If so, then Diedrich Rempel (b. 3 Jan 1829) #335514 was likely the son of one of Peter Rempel's brothers. Vitals say he died at age 89.
Note: He had no children born in Neu Samara. He never lived anywhere but South Russia and Manitoba- Al Rempel
