  Alt POB Vistula Delta, Prussia
He immigrated in 1793 to Chortitza with his first wife and children (see Dyck, 1993, p. 13 and Unruh, p. 201). A history by C. J. (Adeline) Friesen called "Sawatzky 1760 - 1978" documents the Minnesota branch. He lived in Schoenhorst in 1793 and 1795 and in Chortitza village in 1802 and 1803. Schapansky presumed that he was the son of Thomas Sawatsky of Walldorf, but the 1850 Friedrichsthal Census calls him "Peter Peter Sawatzky," implying his father was Peter. One record says he died 19 May 1843. Peter lived in Blumenort and Zeyersvorderkampen in Prussia. (See BGB, P.13) The Chortitza Census of October 14, 1797, indicates a Peter Sawatzky family with 2 males and 3 females. This would seem to imply another daughter was born to them sometime between 1790 (B.H.Unruh's listing) and 1797 when the Census was taken.
According to the 1850 Friedrichsthal Census his full name was Peter Peter Sawatzky. This is important in determining his parents.
Peter lived in Blumenort and Zeyersvorderkampen in Prussia.

Russia in either 1793 or 1794 (P. Rempel, p. 9; B. H. Unruh, p. 244, 301). In the 1795 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed as a Flemish Mennonite (B. H. Unruh, p. 244). It has been speculated that he settled in the village of Chortitza shortly after his arrival (P. Rempel, p. 9). He is listed in the 1797 Chortitza Colony Census, but not in a specific village (P. Rempel, p. 55). In the 1801 Census he is registered at Chortitza #38. In the Oct 1816 Census he is registered at Chortitza #26. In the 1835 Chortitza Colony Census he was registered at Chortitza #18 or 28. His registration was transferred to Schoenthal, Bergthal Colony about 1837 since he and his family are among a group of Mennonites who expressed a desire to settle in Schoenthal per Odessa Archive, Fond 6, Inventory 1, File 4889. Henry Schapansky believes that he was likely the son of Thomas Sawatsky of Walldorf (Mennonite Migrations, p. 353), but the 1850 Bergthal Colony Census data found in Zaporozhye Archive, Fond 12, Inventory 2, File 232, part 2, calls him "Peter Peter Sawatzky," implying his father was Peter. A similar file also containing 1850 Bergthal Colony Census data found in the Zaporozhye Archives obtained by Delbert Plett supposedly calls him Peter Thomas Sawatzky, implying his father was Thomas. One source says he died 19 May 1846. A history by C. J. (Adeline) Friesen called "Sawatzky 1760 - 1978" documents the Minnesota branch.
