a. Note:   MARIA UNGER Peacefully, on the morning of December 13, 1999, our dear mother passed away at the age of 93. Her son Howard and his wife Betty were at her side. This was an occasion of joy for Mom, who often spoke longingly of her desire to be united with her Heavenly Father. Mom was born on June 8, 1906 to Maria and John Reimer in Steinbach, Manitoba. She married Peter Unger on October 6, 1929 and they made their home in Blumenhof, where three sons, Richard, Howard and Raymond and one daughter Orla were born. In 1952 the family moved to Winnipeg, where Mom and Dad lived together until Dad died in 1986. In 1987 Mom moved to Donwood South, where she lived until her health failed in 1997. She was predeceased by her brothers, John, George and Jake and her sisters, Katherine, Agnes and twin sister Annie. She is survived by her sister Margaret. Mom was an incredibly active person. She raised four children on a farm, with no running water and no electricity and she cooked all meals from scratch. She carried her work habits, and especially her love of cooking with her until she was hospitalized. Everyone who came to visit her will remember the chicken noodle soup with homemade brown bread, or perogies and farmers sausage or great pot roasts and mashed potatoes. Mom loved to make these dishes and she loved even more to see people enjoying them. Mom will be sadly missed by her four children; their wives, Margaret, Betty, Isabel and Orlas husband Bob; her seven grandchildren and her 17 great grandchildren. Our family wishes to thank Moms dear friends at Braeside Church for their many kindnesses to her and their spiritual support over the years. We also thank the caregivers at Bethania for their compassionate attention to Mom in her last year. Funeral service will be held Friday, December 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Braeside Evangelical Church, 1011 Munroe Ave. with Pastor Ron Penner officiating, assisted by Rev. John Stoesz. Viewing prior to the service. Interment in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Braeside Benevolent Fund, payable to Braeside Evangelical Mennonite Church.
