Erna Agnes (Wiebe) Braun of Altona passed away on October 1, 2008 at the Altona Community Memorial Health Centre. Erna will be lovingly remembered by Art, her husband of 65 years, her sons, Barry (Dorothy) and Terry (Carol), four grandchildren, Kathleen, Christine, Andrew & Mark, and one great-grandchild, Selestine. Erna was born in the Amsterdam School District on June 12, 1921 to Abram and Susanna Wiebe (nee Klassen). She and Art married on May 1, 1943. She was deeply devoted to her family and was a superb cook and miracle gardener. Her family and friends were treated to many delicious meals and baking, generously delivered to their residences or served in her welcoming home. She loved music and sang in the Altona United Church Choir from its beginning and was also an original member of the Manitoba Choral Society. She sang in both choirs until just a few years ago. Erna was a member of the Altona Womens Institute and an active member of the Altona United Church Women from its beginnings. She and Art loved to travel, and made their way from coast to coast across Canada as well as making many sojourns to the United States. Highlights also included trips to Hawaii and Disney World with the children and grandchildren. She and Art enjoyed a close knit group of friends who gathered often for social evenings and who joined Art and Erna on some of their trips. In addition to her immediate family, Erna is also survived by her two sisters, Anne Rempel and Kay Lang, her brother Ab Wiebe, and many nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Olga and Margaret, and a brother John in infancy. Art and the family wish to thank Dr. Dieter Bueddefeld and the staff at the Altona Community MemorialHealth Centre for the care that Erna received. It was a great comfort to know that she was well cared for. (Red River Valley Echo)
