Note: WILLIAM ALFRED CASTLE is the son of ZACHARIAH CASTLE, son of JACOB CASTLE JR. and his wife, MARY SHANE, at Russell County, Virginia, in 1797. ZACHARIAH was one-half Pekowi Shawnee - Wyandot - Metis. This means that WILLIAM CASTLE is at least one-quarter Pekowi Shawnee - Wyandot Metis.
William Alfred Castle is a member of Haplogroup R1a The R1a lineage is believed to have originated in the Eurasian Steppes north of the Black & Caspian Seas. This lineage is thought to descend from a population of the Kurgan culture, known for the domestication of the horse (circa 3000 B.C.E.). These people were also believed to be the first speakers of the Indo-European language group. This lineage is found in central & western Asia, India, and in Slavic populations of Europe. 19 September 1850 WILLIAM CASTLE was enumerated at Household #1285 in the Western District of Scott County, Virginia. WILLIAM was age 25, white, male, born in Virginia, and working as a farmer. Living with him were his wife, ELIZABETH CASTLE, age 25, female, white, born in Virginia; his three-year-old daughter, NANCY CASTLE, born in Virginia; and his one-year-old ZACHARY T. CASTLE, born in Virginia. [At Household #1289 can be found MARY CARTER, age 57, apparently a widow). (Note: They live near MARY CARTER, age 57, born 1793 at Virginia; she has no husband in the household and lives with ALLEN T. CARTER, age 18, and SARAH CARTER, age 16.) (His parents, Zachariah and Catherine Castle lived at Dist. 54 in Russell Co., VA)
On 21 August 1856, his mother, CATHERINE PENNIX CASTLE, died at Lawrence County, Kentcuky.
25 September 1860 WILLIAM CASTLE was enumerated on page 250, Household # 1639/1630 at Estillville, Scott County, Virginia. He was listed as age 37, working as a tanner, born in Tennessee, illiterate, with $40 in personal property. (Note in 1850 he was listed as being born in Virginia.) Living with him were his wife ELIZABETH CASTLE, age 44, working as a spinster, also born in Tennessee, also illiterate (note in 1850 she was age 25 and born in Virginia); their thirteen-year old daughter, NANCY CASTLE, also shown as born in Tennessee, contrary to the 1850 record of Virginia; eleven-year-old son, ZACHARIAH, born in Virginia; nine-year-old son, GORDON CASTLE, born in Virginia; five-year-old son, THOMAS CASTLE, born in Virginia; and two-year-old daughter, LOUIZA E. CASTLE, born in Virginia. They were enumerated in the household of TOMASON E. DULANEY, who owned a large farm. (His father, Zach Castle Sr. lived at Dickensonville, Russell County, VA with a housekeeper and her children.)
In 1870 WILLIAM CASTLE was enumerated at Pattonsville, Powell District, Scott County, Virginia on page #6, Household #40/42. He was listed as being age 65, illiterate, born in Virginia, and working as a farm laborer. (In 1850 the records indicated he was born c1825 and in 1860 born c1825). This would indicate he was born c1805. His wife, ELIZABETH CASTLE, was listed as age twenty-five, born in Virginia, and also illiterate. Others in the household were daughter, NANCY CASTLE, age twenty-five (note the 1850 records indicate she was born c1847 and the 1860 records indicate the same; not c1845 as indicated by the 1870 record); twenty-one-year old son, GORDON, born in Virginia, also illiterate (note the 1860 record indicated he was age 9, so the 1870 record should have reflected his age as 19, not 21); fifteen-year-old son, THOMAS A., born in Virginia, illiterate (note in 1860 he was listed as age 5, born c1855, same as this record); twelve-year-old daughter, LOUISA E., born in Virginia and illiterate; nine-year-old daughter, MARY J., born in Virginia; and four-year-old son, JAMES M., born in Virginia.
On 9 January 1873, William & Elizabeth's son, GORDON CASTLE (Cassel) married CHRISTIAN J. WALL. Elizabeth's name was not listed as his mother on the marriage register for some reason.
On 31 December 1874, William & Elizabeth's son, ZACHARIAH TAYLOR CASTLE, married NANCY P. NEELEY, at Scott County, Virginia.
In 1880 WILLIAM CASTLE was enumerated at the Powell District, Scott County, Virginia, on page 22, household #31. With him were his sixty-three year-old wife, ELIZABETH CASTLE, born in Virginia (note in 1850 she was listed as age 25, born c1825, in 1860 she was listed as age 44, born c1816; twenty-two-year old daughter, NANCY CASTLE, born in Virginia; twenty-year-old daughter, LOUISA E.CASTLE; and seven-year-old son, SAMUEL CASTLE born in Virginia. Their son, GORDON CASTLE, and his family were found living nearby with his mother-in-law, REBECCA WALLS.
On 18 July 1886 William & Elizabeth's son ALFRED CASTLE married LOUISA J. RUSSELL, daughter of RICHARD DARGON RUSSELL and NICEY ANNA THOMPSON RUSSELL. The Marriage Book states that his parents are WILLIAM and BETHENA CASTLE. Alfred's age was cited as twenty-four, putting his date of birth at c1862, and born in Scott County, VA.
There is no record for William and Elizabeth Castle in the 1900 US Census Records for Scott County, Virginia.

He was son of Inman Castle (ca 1801- ). My data shows William was borm ca 1826. Inman was a son of Jacob Castle, Jr. (1749-1848) and Mary Shane, b 1753. Inman was 13th child of Jacob Castle, Jr. and Mary Shane. This is NOT ACCURATE as Inman Castle's son was named William Israel Castle and married a woman named Susannah.
