Notes
a. Note:   Boomhower is Dutch and literally translated means tree cutter. There is a German surname Baumhauer which also means the same thing. Johann Jacob Baumhauer, born in Germany, came to the Hudson Valley of the U.S. in 1750 and started calling himself Boomhower. Some of his children migrated to Quebec and settled in Pike River and Stanbridge. Some of their children migrated to the northern Vermont area where their descendants live to this day. A midwife, by the last name of Gendron, delivered all Eliza's and John's Children. She was also their neighbor. Documented on birth records. From The Napanee Beaver, February 13, 1903: One of the oldest residents of Kennebec passed away recently, in the person of Mrs. John Godfrey. She was buried by the Methodist Church. Mrs. Godfrey leaves a family of fourteen children to mourn her loss, ten boys and four girls, all of who were present at the time of death but three. Mr Godfrey died some twenty-five years ago.
