Note: Murney worked at various jobs early in his life including cutting pulpwood, tobacco harvesting, logging, and working for Ontario Hydro as well as factory work at Dominion Woolen Mills and Canadian General Electric in Peterborough. Not long after he married he began a long career as a correctional officer with the Ontario Department of Corrections at Guelph, Ontario. He took courses part time and graduated with a BA in Sociology from the University of Guelph. Sometime after Bessie's death Murney remarried. In 1990, Murney adopted Heather, the only daughter of his wife Helen from a previous marriage. Murney died of an aneurysm in the stomach area and was cremated.
