Charles and family are in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 census of Koochiching Co., Minn., where he worked as a telegraph operator. According to information written by Charles, "I started to work for the C&NW Ry in Sept. 1889 as Call Boy and Messenger at $20.00 until Sept. 4, 1892. While at this work learned Telegraphy and on Sept 4, 1892 started to work as Telegrapher various places of C&NW Ry until 1907. Worked for the CM&St.P (Milwaukee Rd) from March 1, 1907 to Jan. 31, 1912. Worked for the CRI&P Feb. 11, 1912 to Oct. 12, 1916. Worked for DW&P Ry Jan. 21, 1917 to Aug. 31, 1937 and was pensioned, worked two years on extention."
